Saturday saw the barbarians continue their winning streak with an extremely close match. Matt Coombes opened the score line accelerating past the defences after a beautifully choreographed miss move giving barbarians the lead 5-0. Ben Spragg also eager to get on the score board bowled through defenders from a 5m tap penalty giving the baa-baa’s 10-0 lead. Wincanton gained a penalty kick from a high tackle which put them back to 10-3. Dave Hanson quickly replied by out pacing several of the opposition and running a fantastic solo try. Converted by Michael Roberts put score to 17-3. Wincanton then broke defences to put down a try just before the end of the half. Half time score 17-10.
Wincanton were soon to open the scoring in the second half on the end of a 5m line out bringing the score line uncomfortably close 17-15. Eager to take the lead Wincanton scored a penalty kick which gave them a 1 point advantage. 17-18. Michael Roberts then put the barbarians ahead again by sending over a fabulous 35 meter drop goal 20-18. With only a few minutes left Wincanton kicked another penalty nearly closing out the game 20-21. With three minutes left on the clock the barbarians were almost looking beaten but luckily they were awarded a penalty 30m out. Michael Roberts stepped up again and rewarded his team with another excellent display of kicking to bring the score to 23-21. The barbarians defended the last two minutes strongly and put the oppositions winger into touch to end the game and sealing their 4th win of the season.
Next week south wilts barbarians will be playing Frome away where a win will secure their place at the top of the table.
Thanks for taking this opportunity to discuss this, I feel fervently about this and I like learning about this subject.
